Default Best Overall Elemental String For Bows?

Hi there ...
I've done numerous searches, and cant seem to find any help as to which Elemental Damage Bow Strings are the best to equip your bow with - Fiery, Cold, Lightning or Ebon. If anyone could shed some light on this, it would be greatly appreciated.

Really depends on what you want to do. That said, as far as pvp goes, the number of armors that focus upon added defense against earth (ebon) damage are exactly 1, and not too many eles wear it.

I think Ebon is the best.

I forget where I heard it, but I think it does more dmg to wars.

But don`t quote me on that :P

Ebon is what i use for elemental string, and something else for Rangers and dervishes(in future)

Well really with the absorbtion armor change any Elemental string will add dmg to a warrior.

If your dmg is elemental, none of it is being absorbed.

I suppose if you really want to do elemental damage, it's Ebon ftw. But why give up the DPS of a 5:1 vamp string?

It doesn't. All elemental damage is equal. The only variable is how much armor you have against a particular element. Warriors have no additional elemental armor, so any elemental string is suitable in that regard.

Rangers and elementalists have general elemental bonus armor, and in some cases additional armor against a particular element. As others have suggested, armor with extra ebon protection is very, very rare since few builds rely on ebon damage. This gives ebon a slight edge against the other elements.

Having said that, depending on what you are looking to do, ebon may still not be the best choice. For instance, ebon is the only element without a "conjure" enchantment, so if you were looking to supplement your damage output that way, you are better off with something else.

As Robin mentioned, nothing beats the 5:1 vampiric bow string for sustained damage output. The extra 5 damage is armor ignoring and it provides you with a nice little heal as well (assuming you are constantly attacking, otherwise the -1 degen may be undesirable).

Tnx to all those that answered ... I should have mentioned however, I'm wanting to find out about the damage output in PvE. I realise a Vampiric String or a Sundering 20/20 String would be better in most cases maybe, but was wondering what to equip the bow with against say a Charr .. or a Stone Summit Warrior .. etc (elemental wise). I dont see any threads on certain damage affecting certain PvE creatures/enemies more that others.

I personally prefer Vamp over everything (especially sundering ), but for actual elemental damage, its really all about what your fighting.
Fire has a bonus against Ice Golems, Ice Imps, and other ice-based monsters. Ice has a bonus against fire-based monsters. Earth and lightning I dont really know much about, but it would make sense to have a 'rock-paper-scissors' type thing.

Yeah stay away from sundering....

Anyway the advice everyone has given you still holds true in PvE. Most enemies (all?) have a class just like in PvP and most of the same principles apply. The exception is that *some* elementally aligned enemies have additional weaknesses. For instance, burning titans are weaker to ice damage, which is why a ranger with Winter is invaluable in the endgame mission in Prophesies where you have a lot of them. Similarly, the undead creatures in the Kryta region are weak to holy damage (try bringing Judge's Insight if you have a Mo secondary. As you can see, there isn't really a one-size-fits-alll solution - except the Vampiric string, which always works.

Hope all this helps.
